ATCs
Posted in Collage & Assemblage on August 3rd, 2009 |
Artist Trading Cards, or ATCs, are small pieces of artwork that are swapped between artists. I really enjoy making them in between projects, or when I just want to play with an idea quickly, with very little time commitment.
- Four of fourteen cards made for a swap I hosted on Art 42, using the faux postage technique I wrote about at Go Make Something.
- A set of four cards done for a cowboy swap on ATCs For All.
- A set of six ATCs made for a swap at ATCsForAll.com. The challenge was to use a vintage photo supplied by the swap host in the creation of the cards. Since many people were doing wings and pointy hats, I decided to take that in a different direction, and turn the photo of Beryl into a little green-eyed witch.
- Four of a set of five ATCs done for a swap on ATCsForAll.
- A set of 4 metal ATCs done for a swap on ATCsForAll.com. I used the same basic method as the Cherry Blossom Cards I did in the March 2008 issue of The Monthly Muse.

- I did this group of four cards for a swap on ATCsForAll. The challenge was for all of us in the swap to use the same vintage image of a little girl.
- The challenge was to take my own photos, turn them into black and whites, and then make them into ATCs.

- A set of six cards for a blue themed swap.
- A set of four shaker box ATCs done for a time-themed swap on ATCards. The hourglasses are filled with sequins that drain from one side to the other when the card is rotated.

- One of a set of four cards I did for a psychedelic swap on ATCards. The background, moon and text were created as three pieces on my computer, printed, and glued together.

- A quick set of five cards, made with faux postage from Ten Two Studios. Cardstock, patterned paper, faux postage, a cancellation stamp, and a dried hydrangea were used on each card.
- This ATC was made for the nice folks at Amaco, using as many of their products as I could. The back layer is a metallic paper mounted on cardstock, and the copper is a lightweight metal that's been rubbed against a texturing plate. The sun is cast in air-dry clay, painted black, and then gilded with a little Rub n Buff. Copper wire is coiled around the card and the sun, and embellished with beads.
- Another card for Amaco, using metal, texture plates, face molds, wire and metal tape.
- A metal card colored with alcohol inks, from my book Metal Mania.
- One of a set of four.
- This card's background was cut from a paint sample chip.
- Here's a medium I haven't used in a while: fabric. The babies are printed on muslin, and everything is stitched to cardstock.
- One of a set of 27 wax ATCs I did for an ABC swap. I did the actual collage with glue, and then dipped each ATC in wax when completed.
- A set of 10 cards, made with my handmade paste papers and a smooshed turquoise bottle cap.
- One of a set of ten.
- One of a set of two. The other one had a picture of the Eiffel Tower on the bottle cap.
- One of a set of four.
- A one of a kind I did to add to an ATC exchange deco on ARTdecos.
- One of a set of 12 cards I did for a swap on ArtTradingCards.
- One of a set of 10 cards I did for a time swap on ArtTradingCards.
- One of a set of 20 cards I did for a tasteful nude swap on Nervousness.
- One of a set of ten I originally did for no reason, but then used for a joss paper ATC swap on Nervousness.
- One of a set of 20 cards I did for a Really Red swap on Nervousness. Unfortunately, the red mylar behind the velvet paper is reading as black---it's really a vivid red color.
- Another set of seven made for no reason from leftovers from another project.
- One of a set of ten cards I did for a swap on Nervousness. Everything in this card is black, so it's a little hard to see, but the whole point of the swap was to create cards that showed the various shades of black.
- A set of eight cards I did for no reason with some leftover papers.
- Just a random set of twelve I made to have a few extra cards laying around.
- Unfortunately, this is one of those pieces that will never photograph well. This is one of a set of twelve cards I did for a Katharine Hepburn tribute on Nervousness. The background is silver mylar, with an acetate overlay for Kate's image, stamped & embossed letters running down the side, and the quote is printed on vellum.
- A one of a kind card done for a ATC 'zine on Nervousness. Artists were challenged to create a card with the word HAPPY in any language on it, and to write a short piece about what makes us happy for inclusion in the 'zine.
- Artist Lynn Dewart turned me on to cutting metal flashing from the hardware store with old scissors. No sharp edges, and a very cool metal surface to work on! After a couple of attempts, I did this series of twelve cards for a swap on the ATC Hub---just a metal background with some red mesh, and acetate print of a geisha, and an embossed peace symbol. Thanks, Lynn.
- One of a set of twelve cards done for a Black & White swap on the ATC list.
- One of a set of ten cards done for an Artsy Nude swap on the ATC list.
- One of a set of ten cards done for a House of Blues swap on the ArtTradingCards list.
- One of a set of four cards I did for swaps on ARTdecos, and for a project for a craft web site. Everything is sort of randomly stamped with Fresco inks.
- One of a set of four cards done for swaps on ARTdecos, and as a project on a crafts web site. Everything is stamped in gold ink and embossed with gold powder.
- One of a set of 16 cards for a Really Red swap I hosted on the ATC list
- One of a set of nine cards for a Wine, Women & Song swap I hosted on the ATC list.
- One of a set of three from a swap on ARTdecos. Mimi is a friend of mine who died several springs ago, and the Soul of the Rose is the piece of artwork I used in the memorial I wrote for her and posted to the group we both hosted.
